PathoGenetics is a peer-reviewed, online open access journal, which features studies on the pathogenesis of genetic diseases, phenotypes and traits. Such studies may use molecular, biochemical, cellular, and physiological methods, as well as genome-wide approaches, to provide novel insights into the biological mechanisms underlying the phenotypic manifestations of genetic diseases.
Professor Andrea Ballabio is the co-Editor-in-Chief of PathoGenetics.
Professor Andrea Ballabio
Professor of Medical Genetics, Faculty of Medicine, University of Naples Federico II
Director, Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicine
Andrea Ballabio graduated in Medicine (Pediatrics) at the University of Naples, Italy. He has spent several years working in the field of genetic diseases in Italy and the UK before being appointed the co-Director of the Human Genome Center at Baylor College of Medicine, USA. At present he is Professor in Medical Genetics at the University of Naples Federico II. In 1994 he founded the Telethon Institute of Genetics and Medicine (TIGEM), of which he is Scientific Director. Prof. Ballabio's research interests are the elucidation of the biological mechanisms underlying genetic diseases, using both traditional and genomic approaches, and the development of innovative therapeutic approaches. He has published over 230 papers in prestigious, international scientific journals. Prof. Ballabio was president of the European Society of Human Genetics and is a member of the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO). He has received numerous national and international awards for research and culture such as the ESHG award and the Silver Medal of the President of Italy. He is the founder and director of the "Biology for Medicine" Foundation.
