About the Collection

BMC Research Notes is calling for submissions to our upcoming Collection on Advancing open science.

Open science is a movement that emphasizes transparency, collaboration, and accessibility throughout the research process, with the overarching goal of fostering a more inclusive and efficient research ecosystem.

To some, open science represents a paradigm shift in scholarly communication, while for others, it is a natural progression of practices that began over 300 years ago with the creation of the first scholarly journal. Regardless, understanding the dynamics and implications of open science will help equip the scientific community with the tools needed to disseminate its findings more widely and accurately, refine its collaborative frameworks, and ultimately enhance the efficiency and impact of all academic research.

This Collection invites original research articles, methodological papers reviews, and opinion pieces that investigate various aspects of advancing open science, including but not limited to:

  • Innovations in open-access publishing and their impact on scholarly communication.
  • Data sharing practices, FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable data), and challenges across disciplines.
  • Collaborative platforms fostering interdisciplinary research within an open science framework.
  • Transparent methodologies enhancing research reproducibility.
  • Strategies for detecting errors and predatory journals, including rigorous peer review and replication studies.
  • Ensuring that AI's role in research supports ethical standards and maintains the integrity of scientific contributions.
  • Implications of open science principles on research funding and policymaking.
  • Innovations in science communication, citizen science, and public engagement within an open science framework.
  • Evaluating the impact and effectiveness of open science initiatives.

By promoting and amplifying research related to open science, this Collection aligns with the broader goals of fostering transparent, accessible, and impactful scientific practices. We welcome contributions from scientists, scholars, and stakeholders who share the vision of advancing open science for the betterment of the scientific community and society at large.
