BMC Public Health is seeking submissions for a Collection on The influence of education on population health.
This Collection aims to explore the complex relationship between education and health outcomes, highlighting how educational disparities contribute to health inequalities. By advancing understanding in these areas, the goal is to inform evidence-based interventions and policies that reduce health inequities.
We welcome submissions that investigate the mechanisms through which education shapes health, as well as studies that examine the impact of educational policies and interventions on public health, with the aim of informing evidence-based strategies to promote health equity and improve population health.

Francesca Gallè, PhD, Parthenope University of Naples, Italy

Dr Francesca Gallè is Associate Professor of General and Applied Hygiene at the Parthenope University of Naples in Italy. Her main research fields cover the study of health determinants and the characterization of health-related behaviors, with particular focus on diet and physical activity. Dr Gallè serves on the editorial board of BMC Public Health and has contributed to over 120 articles analyzing health risks and their control for disease prevention and health promotion purposes.

Lucia Maria Lotrean, PhD, Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Romania

Dr Lucia Maria Lotrean is Professor at the Department of Community Medicine from Iuliu Hatieganu University of Medicine and Pharmacy. She is also Director of Research Centre in Preventive Medicine, Health Promotion, and Sustainable development from the same university. Her areas of research include health and its determinants, health promotion across the lifespan, environmental health, and sustainable development goals. Dr Lotrean is also involved in teaching, training, and capacity building among medical students and medical doctors in the field of Hygiene, Preventive Medicine and Global health.

BMC Public Health is calling for submissions to our Collection on The influence of education on population health.
Education plays a crucial role in shaping population health outcomes, with numerous studies highlighting the strong association between educational attainment and health status. This Collection aims to explore the multifaceted relationship between education and population health, examining how educational disparities contribute to health inequalities and impact various health outcomes. 

Advancing our collective understanding of the influence of education on population health is essential for informing evidence-based interventions and policies aimed at reducing health inequities. Recent research has elucidated the pathways linking education to health outcomes, emphasizing the importance of addressing social determinants of health and promoting educational opportunities as a means of improving overall population health.

We welcome submissions that investigate the mechanisms through which education influences health, the role of educational interventions in promoting health equity, and the intersection of education and public health policies, including:

  • The impact of educational attainment on health outcomes
  • Educational interventions to address health inequalities
  • Social determinants of health and educational disparities
  • The role of education in shaping and delivering public health policies


This Collection supports and amplifies research related to SDG 3: Good Health & Well-Being and SDG 4: Quality Education.
