Jacqui Batley, PhD, ARC Laureate Professorial Fellow, University of Western Australia, Australia

Jacqueline Batley is a Professor in the School of Biological Sciences at the University of Western Australia. She was awarded her PhD from the University of Bristol UK in 2001. She moved to Australia in 2002, as a senior research scientist at DPI-Victoria, then led a research group at the University of Queensland as an ARC QEII Research Fellow, from 2007-2014, before moving as an ARC Future Fellow to UWA. Jacqui has received several awards for her research including a University of Queensland Foundation Research Excellence Award, an ARC QEII Fellowship, an ARC Future Fellowship, the Nancy Millis Medal from the Australian Academy of Sciences and a recent ARC Laureate Fellowship. Jacqui has expertise in the field of plant molecular biology, genetics and genomics, gained from working in both industry and academia. Her research applies breakthrough biotechnological advances for crop improvement, through identification of genomic regions controlling traits, which are being translated to commercial outcomes. She is currently focusing on blackleg resistance in the Brassicaceae.

About the Collection

BMC Bioinformatics is welcoming submissions to our Collection focused on Bioinformatics in agriculture. Bioinformatics is gaining an increasingly prominent role in the field of agriculture and plays a crucial role in precision farming and sustainable agriculture practices. Agri-informatics integrates bioinformatics tools and computational methods to analyze agricultural data, ranging from plant genome mapping to agricultural big data analytics. By leveraging advanced bioinformatics techniques, researchers can enhance crop productivity, mitigate crop diseases, and optimize resource management in agriculture.

This Collection aims to showcase innovative research in agricultural bioinformatics and welcomes submissions on novel computational and statistical approaches in the field of agriculture.

Potential topics include, but are not limited to, computational and statistical approaches for:

  • Crop genome mapping and annotation
  • Analysis and interpretation of agricultural big data
  • Genetic variants associated with crop stress tolerance
  • Agri-informatics platforms for precision farming, crop monitoring, and yield prediction
  • Analysis of pathogen-plant interactions and development of disease-resistant crops
  • Computational modeling and simulation of crop growth
  • Machine learning and artificial intelligence techniques in plant breeding analytics and crop trait prediction

This Collection supports and amplifies research related to SDG 2: Zero hunger.
