Chunlin Ou, PhD, South Central University, China

Dr Ou is affiliated with the department of Pathology, Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, China. His research focuses on molecular targeted therapy for human cancers, and mainly involves: 1) exploring the regulatory mechanism of non-coding RNAs in cancers; 2) searching the novel biomarkers and drug targets for the early diagnosis and therapy of cancers; and 3) clinical application of mRNA vaccine in cancers.

Leonardo O. Reis, MD, MSc, PhD, Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas and State University of Campinas, Brazil

Leonardo Oliveira Reis is Professor of Urology and Uro-Oncology at the State University of Campinas, Unicamp, and the Pontifical Catholic University of Campinas, PUC-Campinas. He was also Fulbright Visiting Professor at Harvard University, Brigham and Women's Hospital, a major teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, USA (2022-2023); and Postdoctoral Fellow at The Johns Hopkins University, School of Medicine, Baltimore, MD, USA (CAPES, 2014-2015). Dr Reis obtained his MBA, accredited Association for Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) PUCPR (2023-2024), and was previously Urology Fellow at Columbia University, New York, NY, USA (American Urological Association, 2011). He is also a member of the Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development, CNPq, aimed at researchers who stand out among their peers according to normative criteria. Dr Reis has experience in Urology, with an emphasis on Urological Oncology.

About the Collection

BMC Cancer welcomes submissions to the Cancer vaccines Collection. We invite researchers to contribute their work on the development, efficacy, and potential of cancer vaccines. This Collection seeks to showcase research that explores tumor-specific antigens, therapeutic vaccine development, combination therapies, and personalized vaccine strategies. By advancing our understanding of cancer vaccines, this Collection aims to drive the development of innovative and targeted immunotherapies for cancer treatment.

Cancer vaccines have emerged as a promising approach in the field of oncology, aiming to harness the body's immune system to target and destroy cancer cells. These vaccines can be designed to prevent cancer development, treat existing cancer, or prevent cancer recurrence. The development of cancer vaccines represents a significant advancement in the quest for more effective and targeted cancer therapies.

Advancing our collective understanding of cancer vaccines offers the potential to revolutionize cancer treatment by providing personalized and immunologically targeted therapies. Important advances in this area include the identification of tumor-specific antigens, the development of therapeutic cancer vaccines, and the exploration of combination therapies that enhance vaccine efficacy.

Continued research in cancer vaccines has the potential to refine personalized cancer vaccine strategies,  to reveal neoantigens as new vaccine targets, and may lead to the development of novel adjuvants to enhance immune responses.

We invite contributions on topics such as:

  • Novel tumor-specific antigens for cancer vaccines
  • Therapeutic cancer vaccine development
  • Combination therapies to enhance vaccine efficacy
  • Personalized cancer vaccine strategies
